About Zach Lahn

Zach Lahn for Governor of Iowa

I am a father, a farmer, and a businessman. I’m investing in Iowa and I’m my own biggest donor. I don’t answer to donors or corporations — only to God, my family, and the people of this state.

I believe Iowa can be a beacon — the safest, freest, most family-centered state in America. That future won’t come from consultants or career politicians. It will come from courage rooted in place, history, and duty.

Over the next months, I will be on the road, listening in church basements, VFW halls, farms, and school gyms — where Iowa’s wisdom lives.

This is Iowa.
This is our home.
And it’s worth fighting for.

I will Make Iowa Healthy Again.
Clean food. Clean water. Honest medicine. I will work to defeat the cancer crisis plaguing state.
I will fight to keep Iowa land in Iowa hands.
Over 25% of Iowa land is owned by out of state investors and foreign governments. I will fight for our birthright to own the ground under our feet.
I will Free Iowa's Farmers.
We have the best farmland in the world, but the system is rigged so the farmer always comes in last. It’s time for a change.
I will Always Put Iowans First
I promise to serve you and the people of Iowa. Not global elites.
A Legacy of Almost 200 Years

6 Generations of Serving Iowa - Zach's Story

Zach’s mission remains rooted in a deep love for his home state -
its rich traditions, strong communities, rural values, and connection to the land.
1862
Hans Schluntz, answered Governor Kirkwood’s Call
Zach’s Iowa roots trace back to 1862, when his great-great-great-grandfather, Hans Schluntz, answered Governor Kirkwood’s call by volunteering for Iowa’s Second Cavalry — one of the storied “Hawkeyes on Horseback” during the Civil War.
1880's
The Boy Who Crosses an Ocean - Alone.
Twenty years later, Friedrich Lahn, left Hamburg, Germany at age 14, traveling alone in the stowage of the S.S. Weiland. He arrived in New York and made his way to Belle Plaine, Iowa, where he would marry Ordinancy Schluntz . Together, they built the Iowa homestead that remained in the Lahn family for 105 years.
1917
The War to End All Wars
The Lahn's legacy of stewardship and service to Iowa continued with Zach’s great-grandfather, Alfred Lahn, who serving as an elected official in Benton County. Alfred’s older brother, John, served overseas during World War I with Iowa’s 337th Heavy Field Artillery before returning to Belle Plaine to run the local newspaper.
1940's
An Affinity for the Sky
Alfred and Evelyn’s sons Victor and Roger were inspired by aviation and purchased a $700 Taylorcraft and learned to fly off a runway mowed in the family’s bean field. That experience sparked lifelong careers in aviation, including service in the U.S. Navy flying off aircraft carriers in the Pacific
1990's
Tradition of Serving Iowans Continues
Zach’s father, Jim, carried the family traditions forward, studying agronomy and working as a conservationist while also answering the call to pastoral ministry. Zach and his siblings were raised in rural Plymouth County, Iowa and from a young age had a deep love and respect instilled in them for the beauty of God’s creation.
2014
Zach Lahn the Entrepreneur, Educator, and Farmer
In 2016, he launched Homeplace Ventures. Alongside his business work, Zach launched an innovative non-profit school. Nearly a decade after the original homestead was sold, Zach was able to buy back his family property.
2020's
Rebuilding a Community - Now His State.
In his hometown, he and his family are working to restore their community — including the recent purchase of the historic King Theater and the Chicago Northwestern Train Depot. Zach’s mission remains rooted in a deep love for his home state — its rich traditions, strong communities, rural values, and connection to the land.

"I am asking you for your trust, and if I’m to do that you should know exactly where I stand and what I’ll fight for — without hesitation and without apology."
